Allegiant Air is a low-cost airline company headquarted in Las Vegas, Nevada. The airline company currently operates in more than 100 airports across the United States, bringing passengers to and from small cities in America and other destinations.
Its operations started in 1998, and it currently has 126 aircraft in its fleet and is planning to add four more. Between 2022 and 2023, no fatal accidents involving Allegiant Air have been reported. The last reported accident happened in March 2007 without significant casualties.
During a flight bound for Orlando Sanford carrying 157 passengers, the plane had hydraulic problems which disabled the extension of the nose gear. After repeated attempts to lower the gear, they used up fuel and opted for an emergency landing in Sanford. One passenger sprained her ankle while they were conducting the evacuation.
A close call happened in July 2023 when an Allegiant plane almost collided with another plane mid-flight. After being alerted of another plane flying at the same altitude, the pilot had to make an evasive maneuver to steer clear of the other aircraft. The maneuver resulted in the injury of one of their flight attendants.
The most recent incident was in March 2024 on a flight to Chicago. There were 170 passengers on board. They encountered issues with the plane’s flaps as they were about to land but had to climb again as they attempted to manage the problem. The pilot performed an emergency landing on a different runway instead.
Aviation accidents can mean any event involving the operation of an aircraft that results in injury, damage, or loss of life. In times like these, the airline company may be obligated to pay for compensatory or punitive damages to victims of accidents.
Victims should seek legal assistance first before making a claim. If you or your loved ones find yourselves involved in such accidents, the doors of the Law Offices of Sean M. Cleary are open to provide you with legal counsel and help you get the compensation you deserve.
