Avelo Airlines, a Houston-based airline company, it has 20 Boeing 737 aircraft in its fleet with 189 seats. The company serves 12 airports across the Western United States and is recognized for its low prices. The airline company has bases on the West and East Coast but does not offer cross-country flights.
Last May 2023, three flight attendants were injured due to the wake turbulence of another aircraft, causing them to drop altitude by 400 feet. The flight departed from New Haven, Connecticut, and was bound for Fort Myers, Florida. Approximately 35 minutes into the flight, they landed at Orlando Airport to treat the injured flight attendants and deploy replacements for the flight to Fort Myers.
In December 2022, one of their Boeing aircraft got stuck in the mud during taxiing. One of the plane’s wheels slid to the grassy area of the runway and could not continue taxiing. The passengers had to board another plane.
Weather conditions and runway incidents can pose significant risks to flights. As it is a phenomenon that is beyond human control, turbulence-related incidents have caused more than four serious injuries since 2022. According to the Montreal Convention, the airline company can be held liable for any injuries and damages that can befall a passenger onboard their aircraft.
