One of the co-founders of WestJet, David Neeleman, founded another airline company called Breeze Airways. Breeze Airways is the newest up-and-coming low-cost airline company in America. The airline is based in Utah. Their operations began in May 2021. As of date, their service fleet consists of 48 aircraftand has 55 more on the way. It provides flights to passengers traveling across multiple states in the US.
There aren’t many recorded safety incidents involving Breeze Airways since it has only been operating for less than four years. Noted safety incidents did not involve any casualties or injuries.
The first recorded incident of Breeze Airways was on September 11, 2022. Flight MX-314, carrying 81 passengers, took off from New Orleans but turned right around and returned to its origin in less than an hour due to a depressurization problem. The flight was delayed for 28 hours, but it was able to arrive safely in Richmond, VA, the next day.
More than a year ago, on February 27, 2024, a Breeze aircraft from Fort Myers, FL, to Pittsburgh, PA, was hit by lightning upon descent to the destination airport. The plane was able to land safely and was immediately inspected as soon as passengers evacuated. Reports revealed that the aircraft sustained damage to its vertical stabilizer.
If an aviation incident results in physical injury, damage, or loss of life to a passenger, themselves or their family can claim compensation for the damages incurred. Under the Montreal Convention, airline companies are liable for the cost of damages that result from negligence or accidents on their part in ensuring the safety of their passengers.
