CommuteAir is a regional airline partnered with United Express, operating flights for United Airlines. As a regional airline, it boasts a fleet of more than 55 aircraft and operates roughly 1,600 flights weekly. Unlike other major airlines, CommutAir has a good safety record and does not have many accidents that have led to casualties.
The sole fatal aviation accident in CommuteAir’s history involved CommuteAir Flight 4821. On January 3, 1992, the plane crashed into a hillside near Gabriels, New York, 4.5 miles from the airport. The accident led to the death of both pilots and injured two passengers. Furthermore, it was deemed a pilot error as the crew failed to establish a stable descent. The snowy conditions, which resulted in poor visibility, also contributed to difficulty navigating the landing.
Recently, there have been a few accidents with CommuteAir. Thankfully, none produced any fatalities.
While technically not an inflight accident, Stephanie Grace, who suffered a hemorrhage in her left eye during a flight from Orange County to Houston, filed a lawsuit against United Airlines, Inc., United Airlines Holdings, Inc., and CommuteAir for personal injuries. Although her doctor cleared her to fly after her surgery, Grace stated that she noticed a change in vision in her eye, requiring immediate medical attention. However, after alerting multiple employees, she claimed that air and ground staff refused to help her, prompting her to file a case against the airlines.
