JetBlue Airways is a low-cost airline considered the sixth largest domestic airline in the United States. It was founded in February 1999 and is headquartered in Long Island, New York. JetBlue primarily focuses on customer service and low fares, and its planes also have unique features, some of which include in-flight entertainment and free WiFi called “Fly-fi,” spacious seats with more legroom, and free cancellation policies. JetBlue is also one of the many airlines with a clean safety record and no fatal accidents. Despite this, the airline has quite a few incidents up on air.
On September 21, 2005, JetBlue Flight 292, which departed from Burbank, California, for New York City, encountered a nose gear failure, resulting in an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Fifteen minutes after takeoff, a warning appeared, indicating that the landing gear was not properly stowed.
The captain then circled for around three hours, exhausting the fuel to lessen the shock upon landing before entering the runway of LAX. Upon touchdown, smoke and sparks were elicited, but there was no fire, and none of the passengers and crew were injured. This incident received significant live coverage at the time.
Jacqueline Crawley, 60, from Scituate, Massachusetts, filed a lawsuit against JetBlue Airways after suffering injuries from a hard landing. She was onboard JetBlue Flight 267 on May 25, 2022, and claimed that the brakes on the plane failed. She also stated that she had sustained an "acute concussion and chronic post-concussion syndrome." This incident left her unable to work and caused chronic ringing in her ears due to the impact. As of now, her lawsuit is still ongoing, and she has yet to claim her compensation.
