Founded in 1998, with its history going all the way back to 1973, Republic Airways is a regional airline that is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Its major partners are American Eagle, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines. Republic Airways operates over 900 flights daily, owning over 200 aircraft. Safety, just like any other airline, is one of the company's core values, and throughout the years, it has succeeded in avoiding any major aviation disasters. Nonetheless, a few nonfatal incidents occurred throughout its operational history.
Republic Airways is not unfamiliar with incidents involving fire. The first incident occurred on June 21, 2018, when a Republic Airways Embraer E170 caught flames while undergoing maintenance at John Glenn Columbus International Airport. The plane was deemed beyond repair, and since there were no injuries, no lawsuits arose from this incident.
On August 17, 2024, Republic Airways Flight 4487 was preparing to depart Philadelphia International Airport for Kansas City International Airport. During the pushback, a procedure wherein the aircraft moves from a parking position to the runway, the plane collided with a tow vehicle.
The aircraft carried 65 passengers and four crew members; all were uninjured, except for the driver of the tow vehicle, who was then taken to the hospital to assess all probable injuries. After the accident, everyone onboard was evacuated, and the plane was immediately replaced. However, the flight bound for Kansas was still delayed for six hours. No claims were reported after the accident.
Throughout the years, Republic Airways has received a few lawsuits against them. However, none were from major accidents that resulted in fatalities.
As of now, Republic Airways has not experienced any accidents that have led to fatalities. However, there were a few incidents where passengers or both flight and ground crew sustained injuries.
