Sunwing Airlines does not have a record of fatal accidents or crashes. However, a few incidents over the years caused injuries to some staff and unpleasant memories to some passengers.

On March 16, 2014, a flight from Edmonton to Puerto Vallarta carrying 181 passengers and 6 crew experienced severe turbulence accompanied by altitude deviation mid-flight. Two flight attendants were injured while they were serving passengers during the incident. The plane had to land at the nearest airport in Helena, MT, less than half an hour later. The passengers were transferred to a replacement aircraft to continue the flight to Puerto Vallarta after an eleven-hour delay.

One of its Boeing 737 aircraft had an engine malfunction on a flight to Montego Bay from Toronto on January 27, 2023. In the middle of the flight, the crew was alerted by a low engine oil pressure indication and had to go back to Toronto with the affected engine shut down. They were able to land safely less than an hour after turning around. The incident did not result in any injuries.
